As important as first impressions are in getting new business, last impressions determine repeat business and therefore, are crucial to the long-term success of a company. Rollins-PCI Construction recently had an opportunity to make not just a good first impression – in the form of its first base building project with a new client, Bank of America – but also a strong last impression since this national leader’s annual branch goal for 2007 hinged solely on Rollins-PCI’s successful completion of this project! When faced with the enormous challenge of staking its reputation on completing this project, Rollins-PCI Construction rose to the occasion and further enhanced its standing as the premier General Contractor for Blue-chip firms like Bank of America.
The completion of the Crossroads branch project in Roanoke, Virginia, and ultimately the success of Rollins-PCI’s inaugural effort with this client, hinged on the company’s ability to complete the project – from dirt to done – within 12 weeks, thereby allowing the client to meet its goal by opening the new Bank of America branch before the end of the year!
As daunting as that challenge was, it was not the only difficulty faced. The new 4,500 square foot bank branch was to be erected adjacent to the very busy existing Bank of America branch. In fact, the old branch was designed so close to the new structure that it blocked the drive-thru teller windows, requiring a weekend demolition of the old in order to open the brand new branch on a Monday morning.
To further complicate the project, the long distance of travel for the client’s D.C. based representative and Rollins-PCI’s Project Manager own required the Rollins-PCI team to double its communication efforts between the site and the central office in order that the client and Rollins-PCI’s project team were always up-to-date regarding the project’s status.
The project would not have been such a success with out the great teamwork and coordination of both the talented Rollins-PCI Construction Management Team and its skilled group of sub-contractors throughout the trades who performed on this project. As Bank of America’s construction representative stated, he “had not worked with as good of a team on any previous project.” The branch manager also had glowing words for the performance the Rollins-PCI Construction staff specifically mentioning how well our team communicated with her and to her amazement, how quickly and efficiently we completed the project.
The finished building is a testament to the premium look expected when one walks into a Bank of America branch. An open design incorporating extensive, intricate and functional millwork throughout the main banking hall and innovative features such as a sliding glass entrance door system and a prominent media wall stand out and create a first class experience for bank staff and most importantly, customers.
The true measure of our success came in the form of the superior grade Rollins-PCI Construction received at project closeout based on the grade on the comprehensive “scorecard” used by Bank of America to grade the performance of the construction team.
In the end, Rollins-PCI Construction raised the bar on its performance once again, and under extreme scrutiny and intense pressure, completed its mission, thus leaving a lasting impression with Bank of America as the General Contractor of choice for blue-chip clients.
